How to Start a Healthy Lifestyle Change

This article How to Start a Healthy Lifestyle change aims to explain the easiest way to begin a healthy lifestyle change.

To begin to change your lifestyle to a more healthy one, it is important to know your why ? Why do you want to make a healthy lifestyle change ? Obviously you would like to become healthy, but if there is a particular thing you would like to accomplish such as loosing weight, prevention of illness it’s good to have that in the forefront of your mind, as this will be your primary motivation and fuel for achieving your healthy lifestyle change.

Goal Setting Is The Second Step

Now you know your why which will be your driving motivation.

It’s also important to set a goal for when you want to achieve this by a certain date so you have a goal to stear towards. It all about making your desire conscious to your self so you don’t forget about it. That’s why writing it down is very helpful because at the same time you set an intention for your desire so that you can manifest it.

For example, you could write down a date in the next half year by a certain date you feel is achievable, and in this time you will work on slowly implementing a lasting and healthy lifestyle change.

Setting Up Your Environment For Change

For Type 2 Diabetics the motivation for starting a healthy lifestyle change would be to stabilize their blood sugar and become healthy. But you could of course have other reasons in mind for starting your healthy lifestyle change. Whatever the reason is, the environment we live in play a major role on the decisions we make.

For example if our easy food availability was centered on health foods, there would be less ill people. A big reason for Type 2 Diabetes is that our easy and ready-made food availability is mostly focused on fast food and junk food instead of health foods.

If there were more health foods easy and ready available there would be less ill people. Therefore, our environment affect us a lot in the decisions we make. So I suggest that you rid your home for unhealthy snacks that would slow down or even destroy your progress in achieving a healthy lifestyle change keeping The Focus On a Daily Basis

Slowly Make Changes One Thing At a Time

Great! Now that you have set up your environment, you can begin focusing on what you want to change.

It’s very important to realize that when wanting to change habits, it is something that will take time, and not happen overnight.

You can’t change all your daily routines just like that. That would be totally overwhelming. But to take one thing at a time, and focus on that, and make that a part of your daily routine for a while, perhaps a couple of weeks before changing something else. That way you incorporate that thing into your daily routine. For example, it could be that you want to change your breakfast meals first, so you focus on getting your breakfast meals right, until you move on to the lunch meals or whatever it is that you want to change next.

Slow and small changes make BIG differences!

It’s All About Creating New Routines And Habits

It’s all about creating new routines and habits so be sure that what you love the changes that you make, and they make you feel better. This will help you to stick to them.

Whatever routines you want to make or change you can write them out if you like. That is a good way of knowing precisely what you want, and it becomes so much easier to carry them out when you know what you want. Keep them as simple as possible. Your experience with each new thing you want to change and incorporate will give you further ideas about it. So it’s good not to ponder it too much but simply take action on your ideas.

All Change Starts By Taking Action

We can have many good ideas but if we don’t take action on them nothing happens.

Many people have many good ideas but don’t take action on them. And it can be the minds voice saying “oh that’s too difficult to do” or “I’m not fully sure how to do this”. Don’t let your mind stop you from taking action on the desires you truly have in your live. Your desires and interests are what propel you forward in life. And the truth is you don’t actually have to know it. You don’t have to know how to do it to start something out. Just start out and let the experience teach you.

So many people think they have to know it all or plan it down to the minutest detail first to succeed with a thing. And that’s not true. All you have to have is an idea and a true interest and desire to see that idea come to fruition, Then it will. You’ll make it happen quite naturally when you truly desire for a thing.

Conclusion

To summarize

First know your why, for wanting to change a thing. This is important because if you don’t know why you desire to make changes you likely won’t. It will just be an idea in your mind without manifesting into life.

2nd. Set a goal – even a long term goal for when you would like to have your changes manifest. Write it down as a part of making it a reality and to have that goal to stear towards.

3rd If your lifestyle changes for example center on weight loss and dieting, you may want to set up an environment where snacks don’t lie around to tempt you. That would hinder your progress. So make sure you clean up your environment for such temptations.

4th Slowly begin to incorporate your changes slowly. Start with one thing and make that a part of your lifestyle before going to the next thing. You’ll be overwhelmed if you want to change everything at once. That is not possible. So don’t do that.

5th Make sure you are loving the changes you make because it will become part of your daily routine.

If you get stuck somehow or think it’s too difficult to achieve your goal, just think about your why, as this will help you find motivation to keep going.

About me

I have a passion for health; healthy lifestyle and to help type 2 diabetics lower their blood sugar and lose weight.

A little bit about me

I was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes in 2007, and was basically told it was an incurable disease as my blood sugars wouldn´t be able to come down to the normal level, and that I needed to manage it with either diet or with insulin tablets.

I chose to manage it through diet. And diet wise, I was told to eat meat, salad and vegetables and to let go of potatoes, pasta and rice to be able to keep my blood sugars at the right level. Below 140 mg/dl. Cakes and bisque ts I could have on the weekends.

With this advice I managed to keep my blood sugars down at the right level for some time (below 140 mg/dl) but eventually they rose to high up and I needed to find a solution to keep my blood sugars low.

This led me to research the internet for solutions, and I did find a few that worked very well but they weren´t fully able to stabilize my blood sugars at the normal level but very close to normal. I think I hit the 100 mg/dl a few times but weren´t able to keep them there with the advice given.

I decided to immerse myself in further studies to find a solution for my diabetes and became a certified health coach in the Berg method in 2018. Through my studies I discovered what had been the missing link for me in fully being able to stabilize my blood sugars. And it was a combination of eradicating food cravings and cleansing my liver that was missing piece in stabilizing my blood sugar levels.

Now today when I follow a certain lifestyle, doing a few simple things for my diabetes I am able to have normal and stable blood sugar levels.

Desiring to help others

Because I have been able to stabilize my own blood sugars levels, I have a passion to help others do the same. And to raise awareness that Type 2 Diabetes is not a chronic disease as it is said to be. And today a good deal of health professionals with a more holistic world view can testify to this.

It is my sincere wish to be able to help you stabilize your blood sugar levels. Have a look around and read my blog posts about diabetes. You´ll soon get the picture of what this disease really is, and what needs to be done to stabilize your blood sugars permanently.

Sincerely

Jesper

Obesity and Insulin Resistance – How It Goes Hand in Hand

In this article, Obesity And Insulin Resistance, I aim to make clear the relation between Obesity and Insulin Resistancet, and also to inform that obesity is not the cause of type 2 diabetes, but a factor that can enhance the risk of it.

The cause of obesity is actually a degree of insulin resistance, that has not yet resulted in type 2 diabetes.

The Obesity Epidemic

There is a saying that what we put into our mouth we become. This means, If we put healthy food in our mouth, we become healthy and likewise, if we don´t, we become unhealthy.

The majority of obese people do just that. They stuff themselves with an excess of foods, and these foods are at the same time mostly junk food that makes them ill.

There are various reasons for that. If we are stressed out we grab some food on the go, and this is mostly junk food because this is the food that is most available to us. Also, people eat out of boredom, and eating becomes an activity of doing something. Very often there are also psychological reasons we eat all the time. We feel a hole inside ourselves and need to fill it up to feel satisfied.

Whatever the reason is, obesity is actually an illness. I didn´t actually used to think so. But I have become more and more aware as I study diabetes and healthy lifestyle options, that it actually is a disease.

And for the very reason that it’s not a normal state to be obese. There is a dis-ease in the body, that is the underlying cause, that creates the obesity.

The Disease of Obesity

The dis-ease that creates obesity has to do with poor eating and food choices, and/or a stress event. Both these things alter our hormones in the body resulting in obesity.

From poor nutrition we get a high insulin level. From a stress event or prolonged stress we also get too high sugar levels and therefore too high insulin levels.

And when you have a too high insulin level, the body is in fat storing mode and not fat burning mode. Meaning we can´t burn off the excess fat from the poor food choices.

Insulin is a fat burning hormone as well as a fat storing hormone and as long insulin is high we cannot rid our selves of fat simply because we are not functioning in the fat burning mode.

So obesity is caused by a too high insulin level which renders a person in constant fat storing mode.

The Connection Between Obesity and Insulin Resistance

Obesity is caused mainly by poor food choices and/or stress which creates a level of insulin resistance.

Excess fat from poor food choices enter the cells and fuels them before glucose gets there. So that when the glucose gets there, the cells are already fed by fat.

This blocks out the possibility of the cells to receive the glucose from the blood, creating insulin resistance.

Also, because of all the fat, obese people have a fatty liver resulting in insulin resistance. This result in a metabolic dysfunction further creating high blood sugar.

Many People Struggle to Lose Weight

Many people struggle to lose weight simply because their approach is wrong. They go on diets which doesn’t help them in the long term simply because diets don’t actually work.

In the short term they may lose some weight but that is mostly water due to the deprivation of food and nutrients that occur when we diet. But when the diet is over all the weight comes back on and more.

And the reason for this is that when we go on a diet we deprive our body of food and nutrients, and this slows down our metabolism so that when the diet is over we gain all the weight back on and more simply because we burn fat at a slower rate than before.

So diets don’t work.

Also, workout doesn’t work. And this is because that when we have high levels of insulin we cannot lose weight because insulin stores fat as well as burning it. So in essence obese people are constantly in fat storing mode and no matter how hard they try to lose weight they struggle to lose it.

The Key to Succesful Weight Loss And More Insulin Sensitivity

The key to successful weight loss and more insulin sensitivity is to make a lasting and healthy lifestyle changes, including getting some gentle daily exercise.

The key is really to focus on getting healthy first, because a healthy body will naturally slim down.

To getting healthy we must cut drastically down on processed food and junk food, and instead focus on consuming natural whole foods also known as one-ingredient foods. An example of a one-ingredient food is for example an orange. The orange consist only of the orange, and there is nothing added to it, and it is as delivered from nature.

These kinds of foods work wonders in cleansing our body out from fat, and lowering our insulin levels so we can enter into the fat burning state again.

Natural whole foods such as, fruits, vegetables (including starchy ones), legumes, berries, nuts and seeds have a fantastic positive effect on obesity and insulin resistance (pre-diabetes and type 2 diabetes) and can help to reverse type 2 diabetes completely if one follows a low fat plant based diet.

You don’t have to go all plant based, but it is the best solution, but you need to cut drastically down on animal proteins such as meat, dairy and eggs. These foods fuel obesity and insulin resistance. They are the cause of it together with a sedentary lifestyle.

Conclusion

To sum it all up.

Obesity and insulin resistance goes hand in hand. Obesity is caused by insulin resistance and a too high insulin level in the body causing our body to be in fat storing mode instead of the natural fat burning mode.

Insulin resistance and obesity can be overcome by focusing first on getting healthy. Meaning creating healthy lifestyle changes and getting some gentle daily exercise which will lower the insulin level, burn fat and decrease insulin resistance.

My Journey With Type 2 diabetes

My journey with Type 2 diabetes began in 2007 where I was feeling miserable.

I went to the doctor who took a blood test and discovered that my blood sugar levels were much too high, and I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes.

The diabetes doctors told me that since I have Type 2 diabetes my blood sugar would never be able to come down to the normal level. I was basically being told between the lines that it wasn’t curable.

Choice between medication and diet

They gave me a choice between taking pills or keeping my blood glucose levels low through diet. And was given the basic information that everyone gets who get diagnosed with diabetes, namely to let go of carbohydrates like potatoes, pasta and rice, and instead include more salad, vegetables and meat.

I choose the latter option, avoiding carbs like potatoes, white rice, pasta, and the like, and instead eating more vegetables and meat as they wouldn’t raise my blood sugar so high.

I did that for the next five years (from 2007 to 2012). But by the end of 2012 I was no longer able to keep my blood glucose levels down. They rose up to 8, 9 and even 10 M/mol/l, and I was basically just eating healthy foods.

I was experiencing panic attacks and anxieties, absolutely horrible experiences I wouldn’t wish on anybody.

I went to my doctor who gave me metformin, but after taking only one pill that made me even more miserable I was desperate for an alternative solution to my high blood sugar so I began surfing the Internet looking for ways to do something for my diabetes.

Looking for a way to do something about my diabetes

First I came across an ad about a spice that would be beneficial in curing diabetes. The spice was cinnamon, and behind the ad was a program for how to reverse diabetes. I Immediately tried some cinnamon on a teaspoon with some water, and it did seem that my blood glucose went down a bit. I then bought the program and started using it. The program was basically a low carb diet, and exercise program, where you eat very little carbs the first month (20 grams per day to be exact), then add more carbs afterwards. By only eating 20 grams of carbs for a whole month, my body began to freeze. I was freezing cold because I had too little energy in my body to keep me warm. And so I stopped it. That didn’t work for me.

I found a few two more cures that were actually quite good, and was taught different things in each. But I could use both teachings to form a greater understanding of how diabetes work in the body and what to do about it.

One of the cures focused on the insulin to eat for low blood sugar and the other cure told me about the liver, and how it needed cleansing to function optimally, because when we have insulin resistance as I Type 2 diabetes we also have a non-alcoholic fatty liver.

That second cure program worked wonderfully and my blood sugar returned to normal, what my diabetes doctors said was impossible. But they did! 🙂

So I thought I was fully cured. And basically I just kept on a natural healthy diet, of course being aware of not overdoing fast carbs like bread and the like. My blood glucose levels stayed at the normal range 100 mg/dl for over a month, but eventually they started to rise again. Looking back at it I can see that it was because I began to eat just normal regular food, and in this there are foods that diabetics should not eat. Also, I stopped doing the liver cleansing after I finished that second cure plan.

At this point simply because I was interested i the liver and what role it plays in diabetes I began to research it. And here I learned a lot more. And in this connection I learned about food cravings, how they arise and what to do about them.

I could see that the reason my sugar rose was because of food cravings. So learning to keep those in check my blood sugar basically went down again.

But since then I have been researching on and off about healthy nutrition for diabetics so I could keep my blood sugar stable. And I must say that I have found a lot of good stuff, that has really helped me to this day 21.09.2021 to fully put my blood sugar into remission. And some of these tips I share here on these pages.

Conclusion

The good news that I have found is that this disease is totally reversible. But one must know the right kind of nutrition to eat for Type 2 diabetes, and also one must know de-stressing methods.

Eating balanced simply doesn´t work, because there are foods that are not healthy for diabetics, and those should be avoided. Also, In my opinion a ketogenic diet doesn´t work either even though people experience good blood sugars with this method, and that is because they don´t eat any carbs, but in the organism is still the insulin resistance which will get worse and worse with all that fat in a ketogenic diet.

What I have found is that a natural whole food diet low in fat will help you put your diabetes into remission. And also a low fat plant based diet.

You don´t have to go vegetarian to put this disease into remission just make sure that if you have type 2 diabetes only ea1 one serving of meat per day.

Also, intermittent fasting is a powerful way to get cleanse out your system, and gradually decrease insulin resistance. And this can be done together with the two above mentioned diet methods.

Weight Loss For Type 2 Diabetes

To lose weight is difficult for many overweight and diabetic people. And the reason is that most people do it wrong. They go on a diet to lose weight. And unfortunately this doesn’t work because all diets do is help people to lose a lot of water, and not fat.

This article weight loss for type 2 diabetes will help you discover why diets don’t actually work, and what you as a diabetic and overweight person needs to do to shed those extra pounds.

Diets Don’t Work to Lose Weight for Diabetics

The biggest error overweight and diabetic people make when they want to lose weight is going on a diet.

Basically diets like a low calorie diet, a low carbohydrate diet, and a low fat diet don’t work, unless you do them right. And most people don’t do that because they are misinformed about nutrition from society.

So here is what happens when people go on a diet. A diet means you cut back on eating too much food for a while and then later go back to eating normally when the diet is over.

In this time, as long as the diet last, you might lose some weight in the beginning, but that is mostly just water, and not actually any fat. And when the diet is over, and you go back to eating normally again you’ll gain all the weight back on and more.

The reason for this is that you have deprived your body of nutrients when you go on a low calorie diet and this slows down the metabolism so that when the diet is over you’ll just gain all the weight back on and more.

The key to weight loss is to get all the nutrients you need without cutting back on any of them.

So the solution to lose weight is not to go on a diet. But to create a healthy and lasting dietary change that will help to get your body healthy.

Yes! The key is to get your body healthy, because then the weight loss will naturally occur. I.e, a healthy body will naturally slim down. Don´t even focus on loosing weight. But focus on healthy living.

There be a reason that obese people got obese. And that is unhealthy living, and/or stress that alters the hormone, insulin, to rise to high in the body.

Insulin Is a Fat Burning And a Fat Storing Hormone

Obese people are in what we can categorize as the fat storing mode. Simply because they have a too high insulin level causing them to store fat rather than burning it.

So the key to weight loss is to lower the insulin level, and to increase insulin sensitivity by eating the right kind of food. All obese people have some insulin resistance, causing them to be obese.

Insulin Resistance is Caused By Too Much Animal Fat In The Diet

Insulin Resistance be a condition where the cells block out insulin. As a result both the blood glucose level and the insulin level gets too high in the blood stream. And as a result the excess insulin stores the excess fat from the diet in the adipose tissue and other places in the body. Usually around the organs and this fat is known as visceral fat.

The Insulin Resistance is caused by too much fat in the diet causing the cell´s insulin receptors to withdraw themselves so that the insulin cannot be used. In other words the cells wall out insulin because they already are well-fed by the fat.

Fat as well as glucose (sugar) can act as a fuel instead of glucose. And when our diets are too high in fat, the fat enters the cells first before the glucose gets to the cell.

How to Increase Insulin Sensitivity

You can increase your insulin sensitivity by eating carbohydrates such as fruit and berries and vegetables. These are also called the complex carbohydrates and are healthy for you.

I know many people believe that fruits are not healthy for you because they have too much sugar. They are being taught this by health professionals. For example diabetic people are being told to avoid carbohydrates because they raise the blood sugar too high, and are instead advised to go on a LCHF diet. But this actually makes everything worse because it is the high among of fat that is the cause of diabetes. Sure they may great blood sugar by not eating all these carbs, but they are worsening their insulin resistance.

The Fruit Myth

Fruits are not actually unhealthy for diabetics and obese people. They are actually part of the cure. Because these foods help cleanse the liver and the fat stored in the cells.

The reason that fruits are healthy is that, even though they have a high amount of sugar. That sugar isn´t bad for you, because, as opposed to the sugar in refined carbohydrates, they are attached to nutrients, whereas in refined carbohydrates, they are empty calories which are bad for you and destroy your health.

Conclusion

A healthy diet for obese people be a diet low in fat and high in natural whole foods such as

  • fruit
  • berries
  • vegetables
  • plant based proteins.

Instead of animal proteins, which contain the fat that is the cause of insulin resistance, obesity and type 2 diabetes.

The above mentioned food help to cleanse out the system and help people regain their insulin sensitivity. Then the body will again enter the fat burning state and the extra kilos will go off.

So a low fat plant based whole food diet would be the ideal solution for weight loss.

Something else which is also a good strategy for weight loss is to do Intermittent fasting. See our previous article on intermittent fasting here.

Product Description

Mastering Diabetes is a master piece. It explains in detail what diabetes is, and how it develops in the body. Even better, it explains exactly what you need to do to reverse it successfully.

The authors Cyrus Khambatta, PhD and Robby Barbaro, Mph have studied biochemistry, and really know what they are talking about. They both had very aggressive diabetes, but through their own studies and learning they have developed a method of reversing Insukin Resistance permanently.

As they say in their book. Type 2 Diabetes developed through too much saturated fat in the body, and that’s really contrary to what the health and medical profession tell us, namely that fat is good for us, and that we must cut out carbohydrates and instead eat fat. But that’s not true. Carbohydrates such as vegetables and fruit are not bad for us. Yes! fruits do contain a lot of sugar, but that sugar isn´t bad for us, because as opposed to refined carbohydrates, that sugar in fruits are attached to nutrients and the refined carbs are not. That’s why they are empty calories and makes us ill.

It is actually the carbohydrates such as vegetables and fruit that help increase insulin sensitivity because they cleanse out the fat stored in the cells and tissue.

They recommend a low fat plant based whole food diet to overcome diabetes.

Diabetes – What You Need to Know

In this article I will attempt to highlight the most important aspects about diabetes and what you really need to know about it.

It can be scary to get a type 2 diabetes diagnosis, I know I was, and so I really want to explain to you that this disease, even though it is very serious – you can actually reverse it, and put it into remission. But we need to first understand it.

About Type 2 Diabetes

Type 2 Diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. It is where the pancreas produces enough insulin, but the cells cannot utilize the insulin properly, because they have developed a resistance towards it. Type 2 Diabetes is also called Insulin Resistance, and the high blood sugar is known as hyperglycemia.

When we eat, food becomes glucose in the blood stream to fuel our body with energy. In order for this glucose to get into the cells, insulin is released by the beta cells in the pancreas to bring the glucose into the cells. Insulin acts as a key to open the cell’s insulin receptors, for the glucose to get into the cells.

Insulin is at the same time also a fat storing hormone and stores the excess food energy in the liver and the muscles for later use. It also dumps the excess energy as fat on the belly and inside the body and around the organs such as the liver and the pancreas. This fat is known as visceral fat.

The liver and the pancreas are the two blood sugar regulating organs, and when they get filled up with fat from overeating they loose communication with each other. This results in Type 2 Diabetes because they no longer can regulate the blood sugar optimally.

Type 2 diabetics overeat. They love to eat all the time simply because their blood sugar levels are high, and when they drop a bit, that makes them crave more food to keep their blood sugar levels high. It’s a vicious circle, and one that increases Insulin Resistance and promotes overweight.

It works like this. When you have Insulin Resistance you have high blood sugar. And as your blood sugar increases you get more Insulin Resistance and so on.

With Insulin Resistance only a small portion of glucose gets into the cells. In this situation, the cells don´t get enough energy any longer, and blood sugar gets backed up in the bloodstream, causing a high blood sugar level. At the same time, it causes our cells to starve of energy. This, over time, can lead to many serious complications, such as infections and amputations.

In essence, the organs of the body slowly start to rot. Type 2 Diabetes is therefore also known as a rotting disease. Because our cells do not get adequately fueled by the glucose. Due to this many diabetes patients are often tired; simply because they don´t have the energy, they are supposed to have.

The reason, Insulin Resistance develops in the body, is because of excess fat from animal proteins that enters the cells, and when the cells get fueled by fat instead of glucose, they wall out the insulin by withdrawing the insulin receptors because they now are fueled by fat. This is also a form of inflammation in the cells-

High Blood Sugar and Type 2 Diabetes Are Two Different Things!

The high blood sugar is not actually the disease itself, but is only a symptom of Type 2 Diabetes.

Imagine a person who has an infection that causes a headache. The headache is not the actual disease. The infection is, and that’s what needs to be addressed.

In the same way with Type 2 Diabetes, the high blood sugar is only a symptom of Diabetes, and it is the cause of the symptom, the underlying cause or the root of the problem that needs to be understood and then treated.

The underlying cause, or the root cause of Diabetes, is the insulin resistance. That’s what is causing the high blood sugar because it blocks out the sugar from entering the cells in the tissue.

I used to believe that it is the high insulin level that is the cause of the resistance but the more I study this disease, the more I learn, and I believe now that it is actually the high fat in foods that enters the cells causing an inflammation, like a wall around the cells that block out the insulin from bringing the blood sugar into the cells. And thereby the blood sugar stays in the blood stream together with the insulin causing both high blood sugar, known as type 2 diabetes as well as a high insulin level, which is a major contributor to many of the major diseases like Alzheimer’s, heart disease, stroke etc.

Diabetes Can Be Treated With a Low Fat Plant Based Whole Foods Diet

photo showing bright colored vegetablesTo treat diabetes successfully, the Insulin Resistance needs to be addressed, and not the high blood sugar, which is only a symptom of the disease.

Before you can actually treat it, you must know the cause of insulin resistance, and it is caused by too much fat in the diet. Too much saturated fat from refined carbohydrates, animal proteins such as meat, dairy, and eggs. So if you want to free yourself of type 2 diabetes you must replace animal proteins (saturated fats) with low fat plant based whole foods such as salad, vegetables, fruits, berries nuts and seeds as well as cut drastically down on refined carbohydrates. These natural foods will gradually cleanse out the fats stored in the cells, so the cells insulin receptors again will be sensitive to the insulin.

Low fat plant based whole foods are the key to reversing type 2 diabetes. But you don’t have to go plant based if you don’t want to. Cutting drastically down on meat and animal proteins is also an option.

Conclusion

Type 2 diabetes is not the high blood sugar which is only a symptom of the disease.

Instead diabetes is the underlying insulin resistance caused by too much fat in the cells, caused by poor nutrition.

To put this state into remission you need to cut drastically down on refined carbohydrates  and eat a low fat plant based diet. Thats one option, or reducing animal proteins drastically or remove them completely.

Exercise

Best Exercise for Diabetes

The best exercise for diabetes is gentle exercise. Because diabetes is caused primarily by prolonged stress or a stress event, so you don’t want to do strenuous exercise for not to put more stress on your body.

The best exercise forms are aerobic exercise, strength training and low intensity walking daily for an hour

Low intensity walking daily for an hour

Because type 2 diabetes is caused primarily by adrenal stress you want to do exercise that is gentle and not so stressful.

Walking is one of the best exercise forms for diabetics because it gets the cardiovascular system going, heart and pulse rate goes up a bit, and the blood sugar goes into the cells.

Low intensity walking daily for an hour is probably the best exercise for type 2 diabetics in that it helps you to de-stress and replenish your adrenals.

When walking you should walk slowly and take time to notice your surroundings. This will help you to get out of your thinking and be present in the now. Adrenal stress cause the adrenals to be worn out, and because of this, we are in trouble shooting mode trying to solve everything through our thinking. Constant thinking which cause us even more stress. This can become a vicious cycle when we can’t seem to break our thinking and just relax.

The benefits of low intensity walking

1. Replenish the adrenal glands

2. Takes stress away

3. Improves blood sugar

4. Reduces insulin

Strength training

Strength training is muscle training and this will help you to empty your muscles of old glycogen (stored sugar) so that the new blood sugar can get into the cells.

This way of exercising, beside building muscle mass, you get your blood sugar into the cells.

It is a very good way of exercising to lower your blood sugar when done correctly. Also, here you should not put any stress on yourself but go gently forward and not lift too much weight.

Benefits of strength training

1. Build muscle mass

2: empty stored glycogen (sugar)

2. Lower your blood glucose levels

3. Gets the cardiovascular system going

Aerobic exercise

Any exercise that gets your heart pumping, your muscles working, your blood flowing and your breath and sweat going is aerobic exercise. It stimulates the heart rate and the breathing rate to increase in a way that can be sustained throughout the exercise session.

This form of exercise is also called “cardio” exercise in that it gets your cardiovascular system going.

Examples of aerobic exercise are cardio machines, spinning, running, swimming, hiking, aerobics classes, dancing, cross-country skiing, and kickboxing.

Aerobic exercise has a great effect, not only on fitness but on physical and emotional health too. It can help prevent or reduce the chance of developing some cancers, diabetes, depression, cardiovascular disease and osteoporosis.

This kind of exercise should be simple, practical and realistic. One can use cardio machines but its not necessary for successful aerobic exercise. If practiced too intense it can become anaerobic exercise where you get out of breath.

Benefits of aerobic exercise

1. Improves cardiovascular health

It is recommended by most doctors to people with, or at risk for heart disease. It strengthens your heart and helps it more efficiently to pump blood throughout the body.

2. Lowers blood pressure

It may also help symptoms of high blood pressure by lowering blood pressure, and keep your arteries healthy by raising “good” high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol and lowering “bad” low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels in the blood.

3. Helps regulate blood sugar

Studies have found that physical activity is very good for people with type 2 diabetes because it helps regulate insulin levels and lower blood sugar. And therefore helps to keep one’s weight in check. .

4. Reduces asthma symptoms

5. Reduces chronic pain

6. Aids sleep

7. Regulates weight

8. Strengthens immune system

9. Improves brain power

10. Boosts mood

11. Reduces risk of falls

12. Safe for most people, including kids

13. Affordable and accessible

My own experience

In my own experience I used all the above.

Low intensity walking gets me out of my head and into the now and always makes me feel good and refreshed ready to get on with the day. And that is also true with strength training and aerobic exercise. Both these form of exercise helps the body to metabolize blood sugar and to feel good.

There is noting better than a good workout. The key for type 2 diabetics is that all exercise forms be gentle and not too strenuous. At least in the beginning.

It is important to move and be active as this helps the blood flow and the oxygen in the body will be pumped to the muscles so they get going and will promote health.

Movement is life. And therefore life giving.

Conclusion

Because type 2 diabetes is caused primarily by stress I would highly suggest low intensity walking as the number one solution. This is because it is so good for de-stressing. Then when one recovers from stress I would suggest the aerobic exercise and also strength training simply because the body can better deal with it as it might put a little stress on the body to do these more strenuous exercises compared to low intensity walking.

The aerobic exercise and strength training will both help to burn the old stored glycogen in the muscles so there is room for the new glucose (blood sugar) to get in. This kind of exercise is more beneficial to lowering blood glucose levels in comparison to walking simply because it burns the stored glycogen more than low intensity walking does.

Keep in mind. There are many other exercise forms for diabetics like spinning, swimming and running etc. I’ve just mentioned a few that I myself have used and can recommend.

If you don’t feel that stress is the main cause of your diabetes diagnosis I would highly recommend the aerobic exercises for good cardiovascular health and to lowering your blood glucose level.

Type 2 Diabetes and Intermittent Fasting

Type 2 Diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. It is where the pancreas produces enough insulin, but the cells cannot utilize the insulin properly, because they have developed a resistance towards it. Type 2 Diabetes is also called Insulin Resistance, and the high blood sugar is known as hyperglycemia.

This article Type 2 Diabetes and Intermittent Fasting will help you understand what type 2 diabetes is and how it works as well as give you and understanding of intermittent fasting and its health benefits in relation to Type 2 Diabetes.

What Happens When We Eat?

When we eat, food becomes glucose in the blood stream to fuel our body with energy. In order for this glucose to get into the cells, insulin is released by the beta cells in the pancreas to bring the glucose into the cells. Insulin acts as a key to open the cell’s insulin receptors, for the glucose to get into the cells. The liver and the pancreas are the two blood sugar regulating organs, and when they get filled up with fat from overeating they loose communication with each other. This results in Type 2 Diabetes because they no longer can regulate the blood sugar optimally.

Type 2 diabetics overeat. They love to eat all the time simply because their blood sugar levels are high, and when they drop a bit, makes them crave more food to keep the blood sugar levels high. It’s a vicious circle, and one that increases Insulin Resistance and promotes overweight.

How Insulin Resistance Works

Insulin Resistance works like this.

Due to this many diabetes patients are often tired; simply because they don´t have the energy, they are supposed to have, due to their Insulin Resistance.

The reason, Insulin Resistance develops in the body, is because of either poor nutrition, overeating, and stress which all contribute to type 2 diabetes.

So rather than Type 2 Diabetes being an incurable chronic disease, it is actually a lifestyle disease that can be overcome through proper nutrition and gentle daily exercise. Research done by some doctors in America and Canada shows that this condition is fully reversible due to this fact. Also, many holistic health professionals recognize this.

Intermittent Fasting is a Major Successful Treatment Protocol For Type 2 Diabetes

A major successful and popular treatment protocol for Type 2 Diabetes today is fasting also known as Intermittent Fasting.

Intermittent fasting means eating in intervals of eating-stop eating, and eating again. It is a great tool for combating Insulin Resistance and obesity. It is not a diet that suggests what you should be eating. But it is rather a way of eating that involves periods of eating and not eating anything at all.

When we fast, the opposite happens as to when we eat and store energy.

Insulin goes down, and the body begins to burn fat.

First, the liver and the muscles are emptied of glycogen, which is stored as glucose or energy. This can take up from 24 to 36 hours. Afterward, the body begins to break down stored fat for energy. When there is no more body fat to be burned, it begins to break down proteins. But not before then.

Our bodies can only exist in two states. Either we are in the fat-storing state, the feeding state, or we are in fat-burning, the fasted state.

When we are in the feeding state, we burn glucose for energy. This is the natural metabolic state. But when we enter into the fasted state, glucose is emptied and, we begin to burn fat instead. Here our metabolism is changed from running on glucose to running on ketone bodies. This state is also known as ketosis.

So when we fast, we change our metabolism from burning glucose to burning fat instead.

The Health Benefits of Intermittent Fasting

Fasting has many health benefits, such as:

  • Improved Human Growth Hormone (HGH):The growth hormone increases up to 5-fold, which benefits fat loss and muscle gain. It also gives life and vitality to the body.
  • Decrease in Insulin:Insulin levels drop dramatically, so the fat reserves come into play, and insulin sensitivity increases.
  • Improved Metabolism
  • Cellular repair:Autophagy, the cells initiate cellular repair processes, where they remove waste, old and dysfunctional proteins, which had built up inside them.
  • Gene expression:The genes change in relation the longevity and protection against disease.
  • Weight loss:without consciously having to restrict calories.
  • Reduce Insulin Resistance:also lowering blood sugar by 3–6% and fasting insulin levels by 20–31%.
  • Reduce inflammation:which is a key reason for many chronic diseases.
  • Heart health:reduce “bad” LDL cholesterol, blood triglycerides, inflammation, blood sugar, and Insulin Resistance.
  • Decrease cancer:Animal studies with rats show that intermittent fasting decrease cancer cells.
  • Increased brain health:increases the brain hormone BDNF and can aid in the growth of new nerve cells. It may also protect against Alzheimer’s disease.
  • Anti-aging:prolonging of lifespan in rats. Studies showed that rats who fasted lived 36–83% longer.
  • Increased energy

My recommendation

I myself have use intermittent fasting in beteween meals: I have also done 8:16 fasting which I extend everyday from 4 pm to 8 am the next moring. And I have also tried a 24 hour fast. If however you would like to learn more about intermittent fasting which essentially is eat-stop-eat I recommend the book Eat Stop Eat by Brad Pilon who explains all about it.

As the owner of this website I have found some good products for some of the topics mentioned herein. When you use the links on this page to make a purchase, I might get a small commission and you may get a great bargain. It’s a win-win situation all around. View full disclosure

Its particularly good for obese people who want to loose weight. Instead of eating less and depriving your body of nutrients, the Eat-Stop-Eat method will teach you how to stop eating a couple of times per week to dramatically reduce weight. I highly recommend this book.

Conclusion

Type 2 Diabetes is the most common form of diabetes. I

Intermittent fasting can help to reduce and eliminate insulin resistance. When you fast you decrease your insulin level. You get into the fatburning state, and begin to loose weight.  This can have a profound positive effect on Type 2 Diabetes.
